Mint celebrates Mandela Day

Minties Unite To Enhance The Freedom Of Others For Mandela Day

“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” – Long Walk to Freedom

Basking in the glow of Mandela Day, the hall at the Afrika Tikkun school was echoing with laughter, chatter, and harmony as the smell of fresh paint filled the air and the silhouette of sports figures took shape on the walls, transforming the room into a plethora of inspiration where learners could enhance and nurture their capabilities.

Reflecting on the day, Mint Marketing Manager Sugeshni Subroyen noted that the electric atmosphere and high spirits of Minties were tangible as everyone worked together to make a difference at Mint’s NGO of choice in Diepsloot, Fourways.
“As a company, we, once again, proved that we are not only great at working together to deliver service excellence for our clients but also to make a difference in our community.”

Our efforts in Cape Town

Mint embarked on several initiatives for Madiba’s birthday, with the two months leading up to the day filled with planning, hard work, and seriously determined Minties who all jumped in to ensure that Mint’s goals for Mandela Day would not only be reached but that it exceeded expectations.

Tons of cappuccinos were downed, waffles devoured and tweets retweeted to raise R6700 and ensure that preschoolers at the Little Lighthouse school in Claremont, Cape Town, are able to enjoy a safe, happy playground.

In addition, the teachers at the school – which was established in 1988 as an outreach ministry and is situated close to Mint’s Cape Town branch – will soon be enjoying English lessons and the skills acquired from these lessons will be transferred to learners to enhance their English capabilities.

Deemed a true Capetonian owing to her frequent visits to Mint Cape Town, HR Executive Lauren Clark has been talking nonstop about the energised, tiny, and inspiring preschoolers at the Little Lighthouse School. “Meeting these little ones was so amazing and being able to make a difference in the way they learn through play is a true privilege.”

Giving back is core to Mint’s principle of ‘People First, Community First’ and Minties give these initiatives their all as it allows them to give back, feel good and inspire each other to be better as employees and as people.
